Telecom Egypt loses interconnection dispute case appeal against Vodafone Egypt; loses case against Orange Egypt and ordered to pay EGP250 million
According to unconfirmed sources, Telecom Egypt (TE) [ETEL.CA] has lost the interconnection dispute case appeal with its associate, Vodafone Egypt (VFE). Moreover, the company lost the interconnection dispute case against Orange Egypt (previously Mobinil). TE had resorted to international arbitration to rule on EGP10.7 billion and EGP11.7 billion interconnection fees it claims from VFE and Orange Egypt respectively. However, the arbitration panel ruled against TE and ordered it to pay USD2.5 million (EGP22.2 million) for its fees. The panel also ordered TE to pay EGP250 million to Orange Egypt as compensation.
